At a meeting of the Taumarunui Beautifying Society*, held with the object of resuming the societ?’’s activities, Air. A. G. Riches presided. The secretar?*, Air. A. J. Langmuir, reported a credit bank balance of £sl 10s. Among other matters it was resolved to seek the co-operation of th? Borough Council in improving the camping ground for tourists. Th© Alanunui Football Club -won thsenior cup in this year's competitions. Th© Athletic juniors (Taumarunui) secured the junior cup. The Alanunui Public School won the Peters Cup. * * a During recent heavy rains sever. 1 bad washouts occurred in the Taringamotu district. A portion of th© Okahu-kura-Taringamotu Road was completely carried away, the gap endangering a part of the railway line for a day or two. Repairs were quick!v effected. Near the Taringamotu railway* station a washout occured of such dimensions that the road was closed for several davs. •* • • Afr. D. Wilson's Prodice won the Alanunui Homing Pigeon Club's race from Alarton Junction, with a time of 1,082.9yds a minute. , • » • Dr. R. V. Ritchie has been appointed assistant superintendent of th© Taumarunui Hospital, under an agree - j ment with the board that permits him j to treat all his own patients at the 1 institution.
