REGIMENTAL DINNER

TRIBUTES TO ADJUTANT The Ist Battalion Auckland Regiment (C.R.0.) held a regimental dinner at the Officers’ Club last evening when Lieutenant-Colonel T. H. Lawson, who presided, on behalf of the officers of the battalion, presented a pair of silver entree dishes to Captain .i. G. C. ‘Wales, who is relinquishing his duties as adjutant of the regiment. Colonel Lawson made eulogistic reference to the great work done by Captain Wales in bringing the battalion to the high state of efficiency which it enjoyed prior to the suspension of the Lefence Act. Captain J. R. Gray, on behalf of the company commanders, and Captain L. M. Blyth, on behalf of the junior officers, paid tribute to Captain Wales’s work and wished him success in his now' position as bursar at King’s College. The work of the warrant officers, S.S. Majors T. J. Cronin and T. B. Lale, who have been associated with the battalion for a number of years, was mentioned. The interest taken in the 3rd Auckland Regiment by the officers and men of the Suffolk Regiment to which it is allied, is shown in a letter received by Colonel Lawson from Sir John Ponsonby, colonel of the Suffolk Regiment Sir John, who acted as adjutant of the sth New Zealand Contingent in the South African War, writes: Although we are many miles apart. I can assure you that all ranks take the closest interest in your doings. At our regimental dinner held recently I was asked by the senior officers to write and tell you that we should be pleased if the officers of your regiment would wear the Suffolk regimental tie when in plain clothes in the same way as all officers of our battalions.”
