FOR AVONDALE GUINEAS

MR. LOWRY’S CANDIDATES COURTESY AND COMMANDANT Mr. T. H. Lowry’s three-year-old, Commandant, who was a winner at Hastings last week, will probably be brought over from Greenmeadows by trainer R. Alexander to Auckland for the Avondale meeting next month. Other members of Mr. Lowry’s team also likely to make the trip are Courtesy and Great Charter. Both Courtesy and Commandant arc engaged in the Avondale Guineas, and the presence of one or both will lend additional interest to the mile classic at the suburban course on September Sister te Honour Courtesy is a full sister to the brilliant Honour (Limond—Homage), and Mr. Lowry paid 1,500 guineas for ner as a yearling at the Trentham sales 18 months ago. Courtesy has not been over-raced, having been given every opportunity to mature. A good deal has been heard of Commandant, an Australian-bred thr- r-year-old hy Legionnaire from Boes-iv, - Amber. He had his first race in t:i - Maiden at Hastings last Saturday, an 1 at the end of the five and a-half furlongs he had to be hard ridden to beat Acmill. As the latter won well at Dannevirke yesterday the success gained by Commandant was probably more meritorious than it appeared an 1 with another four weeks to prepare for the Avondale Guineas he ought to be very forward by the time that event comes up for decision.
