RESIGNED POLITICS
sir william McPherson OPPOSITION LEADER WAS VICTORIAN PREMIER -•MELBOURNE, Tuesday. Owing to ill-health Sir William McPherson, Leader of the Opposition in the Victorian Parliament, formerly Premier of Victoria, has resigned from politics. Sir William McPherson has represented Hawthorn in the Legislative Assembly since 1913. He was Treasurer, 1917-23. He became leader of the Opposition on July 6, 1927, and formed his first Ministry in November, 1928, after the defeat of the Labour Government. His Government was defeated on December 12, 1929, and Labour again assumed power. Formerly Sir William was Commissioner of the Melbourne Harbour Trust for 12 years and president of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce.
