CANADA’S WHEAT POOL

PAYMENTS FALL OFF WINNIPEG, Monday. The Wheat Pool announces an initial payment of GO cents for wheat, beginning tomorrow. This is a drop of 10 cents below the initial payment fixed on July 15. An official statement expresses 'egret for the necessity of the reduction. It explains that it is necessary in view of the serious difficulties in connection with the financing of the 1929 crop and in order to avoid a similar situation. It is realised that many members of the pool will feel the payment to be inadequate to meet their financial requirements, but the ultimate welfare of the members makes it vitally necessary that no steps shall oe taken which might endanger the safety of the organisation. hope is expressed that business interests will refrain from unduly pressing collections at this time of depression. The welfare of the prqirie Provinces is dependent upon the solvency of the agricultural industry. It is denied that there is any likelihood of the farmers violating their contracts in order to secure the present market prices for their grain. Orderly marketing is the greatest necessity at this time. Further payment is promised at the earliest date consistent with the conditions.
