ASSAULT AND ROBBERY
SIX MONTHS’ HARD LABOUR Six months’ imprisonment with hard labour, was imposed by Mr. Justice Herdman, in the Supreme Court today, on Tommy Webber, for committing assault and robbery at Rotorua. The prisoner was remanded a week ago to enable the judge to obtain a report upon him from the Probation Office. In passing sentence this morning, his Honour stated that he had considered the case carefully with a view to deciding whether he could grant probation. He added that the prisoner had pleaded guilty to assaulting his companion and robbing him after knocking him down. The offence was serious, added his Honour, who said he; would take into consideration that the prisoner and his companion were both under the influence of liquor. However, he could not escape imposing a short term of imprisonment. ___
