ROTORUA RACING CLUB
EXTRA LAND PURCHASED ADDITIONAL 40 ACRES The purchase from the Donald Burke Estate of 40 acres of freehold land adjoining the racecourse was decided upon at the annual meeting of the' Rotorua Racing Club on Friday. The president, Dr. H. Bertram; said the committee had considered going outside the borough for new grounds but came to the conclusion that that would not be advisable. The cash price asked for the 40 acres was £ 4,000. They were not able to arrange terms. The property must be bought right out. but there would be no difficulty in providing the necessary finance. The club had available £3,500 and only another £SOO was wanted to purchase the land. This could be arranged bv overdraft but it was necessary in any case to provide new stabling accommodation estimated at £1,200. With clearing, etc., they would probablj- need £ 2.000. By developing the new area they would have a perfect course which would meet all future requirements. Members unanimously endorsed the committee's proposals and authorised the executive to purchase the land.
