EPSOM TRACK NOTES

THIS MORNING’S WORK NELSON TASKER IN FORM The Epsom clay track was in excellent order today for fast work and several horses engaged at the Auckland Club’s fixture, which opens next Saturday were given good tasks. Nelson Tasker (A. Julian) was dispatched on a two-mile journey, and with a mile traversed at a. useful clip Belle Axworthy (J. Cockle) joined in. The pace was increased over the final circuit, Nelson Tasker finishing best and running the last half at a 2.10 gait. W. Brain’s horse is improving with each work-out. Evelyn Locanda (W. Nightingale) went from the two-mile post, recording 1.9 for the initial half. The next mile was left behind in 2.19 and the mare paced nicely over the last half-mile to register 4.3 G for the full distance. She finished well and pleased onlookers by her sound display. Warplane's Solid Effort Warplane (J. Shaw) and Arachne (C. Fairman) elected to go from the two-mile disc, the latter having a few lengths advantage at the* get-away. With half a mile in 1.14 Windshield (J. McKendrick) and Chrystal (W. Nightingale) joined issue, the mare being slow to hit her straps. When the mile post was reached in 2.22 the field was bunched* and entering the last half-mile Warplane and Arachne put daylight between their companion. Warplane finished best, registering a 2.15 gait for this stage. Arachne was close up, with Windshield several lengths away and Chrystal farther back. Windshield's display was encouraging, as the mare, after a slow beginning, did not lose any more ground during her ] 2-furlong task. Chrystal also paced steadily and never made a mistake on the journey. Explosion and The Abbey were companions in a useful allotment over several circuits. The ex-pacer again gave a sound exhibition of trotting and is relishing the change-over. Gold Jacket (L. McMahon) had Lord Haldane as a companion after the former had been a circuit. Pacing free-legged, the Gold Bell gelding went freely and was looking to increase the pace. Lord Haldane trotted boldly and except for one error gave a solid display. Gold Jacket’s last mile was accomplished in 2.20. the trotter taking about a second longer. * * St A. J. Julian was behind Nc I.la Dillon while she ran over TO furlongs at a 2.25 mile clip. The bonny little mare is still on the pretty side and may not be quite ready for the early fixture. Strong work was allotted Student Prince by F. Smith over a mile and a-half, and L. McMahon sent Alignonne over half a mile farther, without winding up the watch. She paced evenly all the way.
