THE BIG DRUM

Sir, — I would like to congratulate the executive of Alusic Week upon the remarkable success that has attended its efforts. We have had splendid programmes and they have been splendidly supported by the public, indicating clearly that there is still a rich field in cultural work to be explored in Auckland. Those who issued jeremiads against Alusic Week and pessimistic utterances concerning the future of music in Auckland have been surely confounded. There is a lesson in Alusic Week for the musical organisations of Auckland, and it is that it will pay to bring themselves before the public. If the musical societies want the good work to continue they must, metaphorically as well as literally, “bang the big drum.” TIAIBREL.
