FAREWELL WISHES
CORDIAL CONGRATULATIONS FOR MR. FORBES PARTIES IN AGREEMENT Press Association PARLIAMENT BLDGS.. Friday. Speaking in the House this afternoon. the Leader of the Opposition, the Right lion. J. Q. Coates, extended to the Prime Minister the best wishes of the Reform Party lor a pleasant trip. The party hoped he would meet with every success, and felt lie would represent New Zealand with credit to himself and to the Dominion at the Imperial Conference. The members knew that in tlie last two weeks they had not made the path easy for the Prime Minister, but they , knew he would realise that strong criticism made for better legislation The Leader of the Labour Party, Mr. 11. E. Holland, said his party joined with Mr. Coates in extending its best wishes to Mr. Forbes. They hoped the Imperial Conference would bo a success, and that those views which made for the progress of the nations, and the peace of the world, would receive l’ront-rank consideration. Mr. Forbes, replying, expressed his thanks for the good wishes and for the co-operation and goodwill shown by members of the House during a particularly strenuous period. He thought he was right in saying that never luefore in the history of the New Zealand Parliament had so much contentious legislation been put through in so short a time. This would not have been possible had he not had tlie co-oi»eration of members. Ho recognised the importance of his mission in Attending the Imperial Conference. He knew that sentiment in New Zealand tvoward the Old Land was very strong and very deep, and it was his wish that he might be of some service in matptaining % the very close relationship of tlie past, and in maintaining that unity of the British Empire tiiat would be of benefit to the peace of the worjd. W. Forbes, who is to accompany tin? Prime Minister to the Imperial Conference in London, and presented her with a , travelling rug. The presentation! was made by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, who referred to the social qualities of both Mr. .and Mrs. Forbes, and expressed a hope tiiat their trip would be a pleasant one.
