COMMITTEE CRITICISED
PUBLICATION OF WINTER SHOW FINANCES “BREACH OF ETIQUETTE” The action of the committee of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association in discussing: the balance-sheet of the recent Winter Exhibition in open meeting . and publishing the accounts, came in for strong criticism at a meeting of the Council of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. The •exhibition was administered by a Joint committee from the two associations. The move was characterised by Mr. W. Pascoe as a “gross breach of etiquette” on the part of the Manufacturers’ Association, and Mr. H. S. W. King referred to it as “another instance of the manufacturers wishing to run the Show for themselves.” He pointed out that the balance-sheet had been prepared for submission to the joint committee, which made all arrangements, and a copy had been sent in confidence to Mr. J. Findlay, secretary of the Manufacturers’ Association. This was presented at a committee meeting and published as though all finance had been in the hands of that committee. No statement regarding the Winter Exhibition could be considered authentic unless made by the joint committee, Mr. King pointed out. The secretary, Mr. W. F. O’Donnell, said the publication had probably been through an oversight, having been taken in open meeting instead of in committee. There had been a perfect right to discuss prospects in public but not results until finally approved by all concerned. A letter is to be sent to the Manufacturers’ Association drawing attention to the view taken of the breach.
