MANGERE EAST CROQUET CLUB
ENJOYABLE 500 AFTERNOON A delightful afternoon, organised by Miss K. Tims, was held on Wednesday. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Mangere East Croquet Club. A progressive 500 tournament was played, the winner being Mrs. Keys, while the hidcfen number competition was won by Mrs. Hodges. During the afternoon Mrs. Hen wood, president of the club, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. D. Connell, who is leaving the district in the near future, with a dainty posy of violets, and wished her and Mr. Connell every happiness in their new surroundings. MONT LE GRAND CROQUET CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Mont le Grand Croquet Club was held in the club’s pavilion recently, Mrs. Cole, president, presiding over a fair attendance of members. The secretary's report and balance sheet showed the club to be in a sound financial position. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs. Cole; vicepresident, Mrs. Peckham; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Thomson; general committee, Mrs. Richardson Mrs. Sessions, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Thomas; match committee, Mrs. Cole, Mrs. Thomson, and Mrs. Richardson; green superintendent, Mrs. Robertson; honorary auditor, Mr. Layland; social committe, Mrs. Thomson, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Tremain, Mrs. Stacey, Mrs. Peckham, Mrs. Sessions and Mrs. Bush; delegates to the Auckland Croquet Association, Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Thomson. The following women were successful in club matches during the season: A and B doubles, Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Flemming; handicap -singles (Dennison Cup), Mrs. Thomas; C singles, Mrs. Scott. The A and B gold buttons are held by Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Williams, respectively. KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS A successful fancy dress ball was organised by the Maungatupoto School Committee in aid of its funds. Prizes were won:—Adults: Miss Myrtle Moir (Pack of Cards); Miss Jean Sunnex (Eastern Peasant). Juveniles: Miss Peggy Stebbing (Maori Princess); Master T. Gemmell (Brown Elf) ; Miss Mollie Ford gave a delightful exhibition of the Highland Fling. * * * A surprise party was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Robinson, of Ohura, with the object of providing a gift evening for Miss Jean Robinson, prior to her marriage, which takes place shortly. A large number of guests were present, and a happy time was spent. Cards and dancing entertained the guests, and Miss Robinson received many useful and ornamental gifts. * * * A successful concert was held recently at Ohura. The following local performers took part:—Mesdames Armstrong and Dons, Misses Geange and Hunt, Messrs. o’D#a, A. MacClure, Harrison, Naulls, W. MacClure, Ross, Manning, Wakeford and Brady. The finanical results were very satisfactory to the promoters. |
