POWER LINE FALLS
BRILLIANT ELECTRICAL DISPLAY TRAMS DELAYED AT ONEHUNGA A brilliant display of electric sparks was provided by the tram power line at Onehunga at eleven o’clock last evening, when some yards of the line burned through, owing to a broken end falling on to the rails. Just after a car had passed under one of the supporting wires of the overhead supply on the inward track near the terminus, the line broke. The loose end fell and grounded on che rails, and was red hot when the power was shut off. Several yards been melted by the short-circuit, and temporary repairs were carried out. When the circuit was # restored by the tying together of the two broken ends, the twelve cars which had been held up at the terminus were able to proceed, although each had to cut the contact of its trolley-pole as the damaged portion was negotiated. Permanent repair work was completed during the night.
