TO FIGHT CANCER

NOVEL ASSISTANCE BY MANUFACTURERS GIFTS OF N.Z. GOODS A most original scheme to augment the funas of the Auckland division of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society, has been evolved by a committee of the Auckland Manufacturers* Association, set up to assist the fund.

The idea is that manufacturers shall give samples of their products and that any citizen who subscribes 2s 6d or more to the fund shall have the right to tender for any article the manufacturers give, the money going to the cancer fund. The highest tenderer at the close of each week throughout the campaign, which lasts three months, shall receive the article tendered for at the price he offers. By lending their assistance and making donations, the manufacturers will be assisting themselves also and stimulating New Zealand industry. A great exhibition of Dominion-made goods, doubtless the largest ever on show in New Zealand, will be arranged in 21 shops on the first floor of the Queen’s Arcade where the public will have opportunity to inspect the display. Nearly 100 women of Auckland have volunteered their services as attendants at the shops. Coupons will be issued when subscriptions to the cancer fund are made, and these will be attached to the forms on which tenders are made for the purchase of goods. At least 800 manufacturers in the Auckland Province may participate in the scheme, and others throughout New Zealand are being invited to take the opportunity of having their products brought before the consuming public of what is recognised as being the most important selling centre in the Dominion. Articles of a value of £1 to £lO are suggested as the most suitable, but anything made in New Zealand will be eligil'.e for display. As each manufacturer is asked to give any number of articles up to ten, the wide scope of the scheme is obvious. „
