Racing circles received a shock today when Carradale . was scratched from the Metropolitan owing to leg trouble. Carradale was favourite forth is race. He ran a, great race in the last Melbourne Cup, but ran off the course when making the home bend, at which stage he held a good lead. WELL-BRED METELLUS The well-bred Metellus (Paladin — War lady), who never acted up to expectations, has become affected in the respiratory organ, and was recently given away as a hack. Metellus did most of his racing under the Fordell trainer, F. Tilley.
