N.Z. DAIRY PRODUCE
STATISTICAL POSITION NOT UNFAVOURABLE Latest returns issued by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board show the statistical position in regard to dairy produce is not unfavourable in comparison with the position a year ago. On August 1 this year it was estimated that stocks of all butters in London, including private and provincial stores, totalled 24,300 tons, a decrease 4,500 tons. Stocks in New Zealand or afloat were 10.0S0 tons (quantity afloat 7,830 tons), compared with 5,666 tons (afloat 3,991 tons), an increase of 4,414 tons. Thus the total of all butters in the British stores and the portion of the New Zealand output not yet actually on the market was 34,380 tons on August 1 last, compared with 34,466 tons a year before. The quantities and countries of origin of the butter imported into (Treat Britain during the seven months ended July 31 are given in the following table, which includes the similar figures for last year:
STOCKS OF CHEESE. The estimated stocks of cheese held in London. Liverpool, and Bristol on August 1 were 8.844 tons of New Zealand and Australian, and 5,097 tons of Canadian, a total of 13,941 tons, compared with 8.807 tons of New Zealand and Australian and 5.789 tons of Canadian, a. total of 14.596 tons, at the corresponding date in 1929. Stocks of cheese in New Zealand or afloat were 13,111 tons, compared with 10,548 tons. Considerably more butter and slightly less cheese were held in stock in Canada on August 1 last. compared with the figures of a year before. Butter totalled 14,462 tons, against 9.303 tons, an increase of 5,159 tons. The cheese figures were 11.147 tons and 12,642 tons, a decrease of 1,495 tons. The United States, on the other hand, was holding less butter and more cheese, the figures being 64.864 and 67,684 tons of butter, and 39,582 and 34,940 tons of cheese. Canadian cheese held in Canada and the United Kingdom totalled 16.244 tons on August 1 last, compared with 18.431 tons a year before, or a decrease of 2.187 tons. Tho destination of produce shipped from tho Dominion during the 12 months ended July 31 this year and last is shown in the following tables;
[During the 1929-30 season 84 ‘ per cent, of the butter was shipped on consignment. compared with 65 per cent, consigned in the previous season. Cheese consignments decreased, being 77.44 per cent, last season, compared with 81 per cent, in 1928-29.
