MUSIC WEEK LECTURE

HIGHER THOUGHT CENTRE The Auckland Higher Thought Centro made another valuable contribution to the activities of Music Week on Wednesday evening when the president. Mr. T. W. Silkock, delivered an interesting lecture on ‘’Music, Rhythm and Form.” The lecture was illustrated with lantern slides which showed conclusively that musical notes produce definite forms. A resonator was illustrated, upon the diaphragm of which powders and semi-liquid matters were distributed. Musical notes being caused to impinge thereon caused certain forms to be taken by the matter, the i'<vm created by each note being invariable. As each note was sustained the form became more perfect. It was shown that vibration was the basic law of creation. The lecture was listened to attentively by a large audience which filled the Temple auditorium, and at the conclusion of the address a vote of thanks was accorded the speaker and also Mrs. V. J. Moller and Mr. Herbert Barrington whose tasteful musical items added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening.
