ROBBED OF £BOO
NEW ZEALANDER’S SAVINGS LOST ON STEAMER TWO SUSPECTS DETAINED SYDNEY, Tuesday. Mr. H. Ballantyne, a quarryman, of the Hawke’s Bay district, who was a third-class passenger by the Maunganui, reported the loss of £BOO on the voyage between Wellington and Sydney. Detectives boarded the vessel immediately she entered the harbour today and questioned two men, who were detained. Mr. Ballantyne told the detectives that the money represented his life savings. He had also lost two swags The police are of opinion that Mr. Ballantyne was drugged before lie joined the Maunganui as his fellowpassengers say he was in a condition of stupor for three days after he embarked.
