PAKURANGA HUNT

MEET AT HOWICK SCHOOL BEST RUN OF SEASON The good field which attended the meet of the Pakuranga Hunt at the Howick School yesterday enjoyed the best run of the season, wiien a quarry led the pack over 10 miles of Ideal hunting country. The going was tiptop all the way and the scent was good. The hounds worked exceptionally well and the meet was acclaimed to be the best of many good ones enjoyed this season. The first draw was made on the farm of Mr. Nicholas, and after working through to Air. Somerville’s property a strong hare was raised, leading the field at a fast clip across Mr. Somerville’s, when it crossed the road into Mr. Andrew’s. After circling his property it recrossed the road and again entered Mr. Somerville’s. Here it ran straight across the property and along the Cockle Bay Road for some distance, when it turned through Mr. H. Nicholas’s farm. It then took a straight lino through the valley, back on to Mr. Somerville’s farm. Here it crossed the road and traversed the properties of Messrs. T. Haslip, R. Hataway, B. Hattaway, crossing the road, to cover Messrs. Finlayson Bros., W. Guy’s and Wynyard’s farms. It ran through Messrs. B. Hattaway’s, O. Phillips’s, Haslip’s, Andrews’s, Wilson’s, when it again crossed the Howick Road to Somerville’s and was eventually killed. Another\good hare was put up on Mr. Somerville’s farm and after several good circles it found shelter in the Whitford gorge. The hounds had to be finally whipped off, as the horses were run to a standstill.
