AMBITIOUS GIRL FLIER
NEW ZEALANDER PLANS AUTOGIRO VENTURE ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA LONDON, Monday. Colonel John Josselyn, managingdirector of the Cierva Autogiro Company, Limited, states that Miss Aroha
Clifford, of Christchurch, New Zealand, has gone to Europe to examine an autogiro. She intends to attempt to fly to Australia in one of these machines if it proves to be suitable. It was Miss Clifford’s intention to leave AVellington by the Rangitane on July 19 for England. On her arrival she would immediately endeavour to obtain a ground engineer’s ticket and gain admission to ono of the big airplane works. In Britain Miss Clifford intended doing a good deal of flying, and eventually perhaps she would be able to obtain permission for the big; flight. Of the seven women pilots in the Dominion, Miss Clifford has easily tlie greatest experience. She has crossed Cook Strait on eight occasions and has flown to Auckland, Hastings, Hawera and Feilding, and from Dunedin to Christchurch. ITer record is 120 hours’ solo flying.
