CIVIC
“ALL QUIET” All the cruelty, the savagery, the sickening physical impact of war as it was written by the German, Remarque, has now been transferred to the audible screen with true and telling effect. Which is another way of reporting that the Universal Company has wrought a masterly incarnation of that vivid novel of valiant youth meeting death called “All Quiet on the Western Front.” It is in Us last days at the Civic Theatre.
There was, to be sure, but one conceivable way in which any screen version of the story might have been approached, and still it must stand as a tribute to the producers that they accepted the task and stuck to it faithfully to the end.
The Civic’s programme also includes musical selections by the Civic Concert Orchestra.
