MORRINSVILLE NOTES
A total of 501 children from eleven schools are receiving treatment at the Morrinsville dental clinic this year. The extent of the clinic’s work is shown by the following figures for the five months ended June 30: —Total attendances, 601; total operations. 1.709; new patients examined, 72; patients re-ex-amined, 327.
With tho departure of the British team from New Zealand, many secretaries of country sports bodies will heave a sigh of relief. Owing to the popularity of listening-in to broadcasts of the match, as well as the keenness of followers of all kinds of sport to travel far to see the big football matches, most sports have been neglected this winter. The Morrinsville Rugby Union has had a particularly lean year as far as gate receipts go, while the Morrinsville Golf Club has found that many of its.members have played truant from the “Royal and Ancient” game to assist with the national game. Only two men golfers used the Morrinsville links on Saturday. _ /
In the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, T. Scott, sharemilker, of Tatuanui, was charged before Mr. F*. W. Platts, S.M., with extracting electricity to the value of £2 from the Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s line. It was stated that defendant removed the meter fuse, thus preventing the meter from registering. In pleading guilty, Scott said the offence had occurred only a few days previous to the inspection. The magistrate imposed a fine of £ 6 and costs £1 Is.
Before the Morrinsville Borough Council opened its ordinary business on Thursday evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. McPherson, moved that the council place on record its appreciation of the services the late Mr. J. B. Thomas had rendered to Morrinsville during his term on the council from 1921 to 1927.
