AFTER 40 YEARS

RAILWAY MAN RETIRES After completing’ 40 years’ service with the Railway Department, Mr. J. D. Keen, coaching foreman at the Auckland station, will retire on superannuation today. Mr. Keen’s first appointment was as junior porter at Balclutha in 1890. For about 20 years Mr. Keen was employed in Otago and Southland, first as a porter and then as a guard, and later he was stationed at Morrinsville, Rotorua and Te Kuiti. In 1912 he was transferred to Auckland, and for tho last nine years has held the position of coaching foreman. Mr. Keen will continue to live in Auckland.

A smoke concert will be held next Saturday evening, when a presents - tion will be made, to Mr. Keen on behalf of the station staff.
