NEW HEADMASTER
KING’S PREPARATORY SCHOOL REV. MR. BEAUFORT’S CAREER The Rev. J. M. Beaufort, the newlyappointed headmaster of King’s Preparatory School, was until the end of last year assistant chaplain at King’s College, and is at present in England. Ho will return and take up his new duties at the beginning of next year. The joint managers of the school, Archbishop Averill and Mr. Charles Major, have made the appointment, following upon the retirement of the Rev. J. G. Castle. Mr. Beaufort was educated in England. He took his M.A. degree at Trinity College, Dublin, in 1920. Entering the Wells Theological College, he won first place for his year in the examination for ordinands, and was ordained deacon. In 1921 he was ordained priest, after which he spent two years as curate at Nortlienden, Cheshire. 1-Ie then came to New Zealand, and was vicar of Hauraki Plains until 1925, and of Raglan in 1926. The following year he was chaplain to H.M.S. Philomel.
When, in the second term of 1927, the Rev. Mr. Willis left his position as chaplain of King’s College, to become vicar of Epsom, the headmaster. Canon Archdall, took over the post at King's and Air. Beaufort was appointed assistant chaplain. • Ho remained at King’s for more than two years. During the war Mr. Beaufort served with the Royal Flying Corps, in which he rose to the rank of captain. On one ocasion his plane was shot down. He escaped with a wound, but his companion whs killed.
