DIPHTHERIA CASES
FIFTEEN NOW AT POINT CHEVALIER INCREASE IN PNEUMONIA A careful watch is being kept by Health Department officers upon the course of cases of diphtheria at Point Chevalier, but the outbreak now appears to be on the decline. Since the first cases among the younger school children using the bowling club pavilion were reported three weeks ago, 15 persons, the majority children, have been found to be suffering from the disease. The discovery pf these cases, practically all of which are of a mild nature, followed upon swabbing carried out as a precautionary measure by Health Department officers. The sufferers are now under medical treatment, and all contacts have been isolated. Vigilance is not being relaxed, however, and swabbing is being continued among persons who have come into contact with those infected. The offiers are of opinion, however, that the outbreak has been checked.
In the Auckland central district, diphtheria cases have increased this month, and up to date number 26. The increase is almost entirely caused by the at Point Chevalier. Pneumonia cases have also increased this month, 25 having been reported ud till today.
