BROWNIES HOLD JOLLY BIRTHDAY PARTY
The Brownies of St. John’s Methodist Church, Ponsonby, held their fourth birthday party recently in the schoolroom. The room was beautifully decorated with streamers and the Brownies spent a happy time. Olga Hansen, their fair-haired little mascot, sat in the middle of the room under their large Brownie totem, while a big Brown Owl sat on the top. The Brownies had invited the Guiders, Girl Guides and Brownies of other com panies, and parents to be present. A big chocolate owl, which had been part of the decoration on the birthday cake, was sent to a sick child in the hospital. The Brown Owl, Miss Mary Harvey, and Tawney Owl must have worked \ T ery hard during the year as three little Brownies, Pet Staley, June Collins and Margeret Hansen, secured their first-class badges, which will enable them to “fly up” into the Girl Guides when of age. Six service stars were also presented to other Brownies. Afternoon tea was provided by the committee, and the party ended with the playing of children’s games.
