ROAD ACROSS BEACH

COUNCIL TO VISIT KOHI ON WEDNESDAY LIVELY INTEREST AROUSED Tho date has been fixed for the City Council's visit of inspection to Koliimarajna about the proposed construction of part of the waterfront road across the beach to join the St. Heliers section. A meeting of the works committee of the council was held yesterday afternoon, when it was decided that the whole council shall visit the scene next Wednesday, August 20. The council will leave the Town Hall at 9.15, and should reach Kohimarama within half, an hour. When the Works Committee recommended that the work be put in hand as soon a s construction of two other sections from Mission Bay to Gray’s’ Hall were completed, hint of the council's proposals brought a deputation of protest, and it was decided to defer a decision until the council could inspect the beach, which the deputation said would be ruined. The council was given power to act, and whether or not the road will be taken across the beach will be determined on Wednesday morning. A great deal of interest has been groused in view of the fact that Kohimafama residents are not unanimous as to tho route the road should take. It is anticipated that both sides will be there in force in an attempt to influence the council.
