ANOTHER BOOKMAKER IN COURT CHARGED WITH ASSISTING Said to be going out of the business, Clarence Russell, who was charged at the Police Court today with assisting in the management of a common gaming-house, was fined £IOO. He pleaded guilty to the charge. According to Detective-Sergeant Kelly Russell had assisted two bookmakers named Prenter and Lewis, who were fined earlier in the week, and who had premises In Warwick Chambers. "Accused was fined £IOO in 192 S and £SO in 1927,” said Mr. Kelly. "He assisted the others In the present, case.” Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: Not as a clerk? “No, just assisting,” said the detec-tive-sergeant. "He says he Is going out of business, and he is being called on too often." Mr. Hunt: They all say that when they get caught. I’ll fine him £IOO, and see if he does go out. Accused asked for time to pay. “You can pay right away,” said the magistrate.
