LARGEST ON TOP
CHINESE GARDENER’S TRICK Putting the large cauliflowers on top of the small ones in the sacks got Wong Quan, a Chinese gardener, of Otahuhu, into trouble. Quan, who was charged at the Police Court today with improperly packing cauliflowers, denied the charge through an interpreter. It was stated that nine sacks which had come under the notice of an inspector at the markets had been improperly packed. There had been complaints about Quan, and.since the present charge had been laid, he had been caught doing the same thing with carrots. “The last man I had on a similar charge said he put the big ones on top to prevent the small ones from falling out,” said Mr. Hunt. Wong Quail was fined £1 for each sack, the fine totalling £9 and costs.
