IN PALESTINE
Accompanying her father to Palestine, Miss Freda Slutzkin, a Melbourne girl, made a study of law and took a difficult course in Hebrew. As a result she has passed the necessary examinations and is the first woman to be appointed an advocate to practise law in Palestine. DEFENDING TOE GIPSIES The gipsies have a staunch champion in Lady Eleanor Smith, eldest daughter of Lord Birkenhead and author of “The Red Wagon.” JJ. was while she was engaged in a campaign to defend their rights that she found first-hand copy for her novel. Her sitting-room and bedroom are decorated iu gipsy fashion, and she has large posters of these nomad people and circus scenes both from England and the Continent.
