SCHOOL CONCERT
ST. CUTHBERT’S PUPILS A crowded audience applauded the entertainment presented last evening in the Town Hall concert chamber by the pupils of St. Cuthbert’s College. Part songs by the college choir, vocal and pianoforte items, dances and exhibitions of physical drill and gymnastics comprised the major part of the programme, skipping displays especially coming in for generous applause. Two sketches, one from Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale” and the other from A. A. Milne’s delightful “Make-Believe,” were of outstanding interest. The scenes taken from this latter play were “The Schoolroom” and “Oliver’s Island,” highly diverting in both sentiment and portrayal. Although the cast'was composed entirely of girls, their representation of schoolboys turned pirate was excellent. The scene from Shakespeare had little in common with the original, taking the form of a sketch of old English sheep-shearing feasts. Appropriate choruses and dances were also given.
