RIDES AT 5.8

SYDNEY LIGHTWEIGHT WON HIS FIRST RACE Early last season the Te Aroba apprentice, J. W. Chandler, could go to scale at under six stone, but nowadays he is probably over that weight. One of the smallest jockeys riding in Sydney today, is S. Dace, who piloted his first winner when he scored on Sir Leucops at Moorefield. The youngster is apprenticed to the Kensington mentor, W. owner-trainer of the gelding, which had been pleasing in his work. It was many months since he won a race, but the stable was fairly confident, and had a tidy win at the long odds. Lace rides a lot of work at the track, and is a. willing lad. His weight, according to the records, is 5.8 Despite his smallness of stature, he rides with plenty of vigor, and now that he has opened his account he may secure further opportunities for displaying his skill.
