Tennis Dance Bayfield Old Scholars ' Club SUCCESSFUL EVENING ! A most enjoyable dance was held in the Symondsville Studio by the Bayfield Old Scholars’ Lawn Tennis Club last evening. The studio was attractively decorated with festoons of lycopodium, cherry blossoms, and oriental lanterns. Delightful dance music was played by Mr. Jack Rowe and his orchestra. E., K.H.P., and Mrs. Ainsworth, of Monteagle House, Twickenham Park, Middlesex, according to advices received here. * * * The engagement is announced of Thyra Glenis, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Penrose, pi Devonport, to Robert Louden, only son of Mrs. Wainhouse, of Devonport, and the late Sergeant-Major E. Wainhouse. AT THE CHATEAU Recent overseas visitors to the Chateau Tongariro include Mr. and Mrs. E. Barry, Sydney; and Miss liolt, of Sydney. Social Week at University Concert is Followed by Reception LADY FOWLDS IS HOSTESS WITH DR. BUCKLEY TURKINGTON The first of a series of four social functions being held at the Auckland University College with the object of promoting community interest in the college welfare and development took place in the Arts Building last evening. Tho functions have been arranged in groups according to professions, and wives of Auckland doctors, lawyers and architects are acting on the committees. Last evening’s hostesses were Lady Fowlds and Dr. Buckley Turkington, and they were assisted by members of tho executive, Mrs. A. E. Mulgan, Miss Ruth Walker, Mr. J. Nigel Wilson and Mr. A. K. Turner.

Lady Fowlds was gowned in black embossed chiffon with lace scarf. Dr. Buckley Turkington was wearing black crepe de sole with an oriental patterned lame wrap. Mrs. Mulgan's ankle-length gown was of black lace with deep berthe. Miss Ruth Walker had on a black lace frock with embroidered floral motifs and gracefully flounced skirl. \ Sir George Fowlds, president of the University College, spoke of the laudable aim of the anual social week in bringing the people of Auckland into closer touch with their University, and congratulated the members on tho successful organisation of the gatherings. A most delightful programme had been arranged, and the concert opened with chamber music from Dvorak’s “Nigger” Quartet, which was given by Mrs. C. 11. Hayes, Miss Lalla Memus, Mr. Colin Munro and Mr. A. Long. This was followed by a one-act play, ‘ The Twelve Pound Look,” by Barrie, the parts being taken by Miss Marie Gaudin, Miss Ina Allan, Mr. J. D. Swan and Mr. Hamish Henderson, members of the Auckland Little Theatre Society.

At the conclusion of the programme a reception was held in the women’s common room, which liad been very charmingly decorated for the occasion with spring flowers and foliage. CARD AFTERNOON PAPAKURA CROQUET CLUB A very pleasant card afternoon was given by Miss Margaret Cooper, president, Mesdames PI. McEntee, J. Tasker and T. C. Seaton on Tuesday afternoon in the Parish Hall in aid of the Papakura Croquet Club funds. The hall was beautifully decorated with spring flowers. Among those present were:—Mesdames A. R. McLennan, J. T. Widdowson, J. S. Slack, J. Richardson, G. Markwick, P. Hunt, Swindail, R. Hope, G. Kernot, E. C. J. Andrew, F. Lound, Petherbridge, J. Bates, McCallum, L. Thornton, N. Williamson, J.
