MOUNT EDEN TOWN PLAN
DEFINITE ZONING AREAS The finalising of the town-planning zones agreed 'upon by the Mount Eden Borough Council in October, 1928. was requested by the borough engineer at last evening’s meeting of the council. He said that there had been some confusion owing to the indefiniteness of the present orders, and that several residents could have claimed compensation. The town-planning proposals for the borough, as already submitted to the council, were referred to the Works Committee. The compensation clauses at present in the Act are highly dangerous. and Mr. Melville recommended that the council wait until definite legislation has been enacted.
At present the zone for residential purposes is from the foot of the mountain to Valley Road, and from there to Boundary Road may be used for commercial purposes. The borough engineer desired that definite zoning areas be decided on in order to avoid the erection of buildings in contravention of the previous report. A coloured draft plan was submitted to the meeting, illustrating the special zoning areas agreed to, and the question will be dealt with by the Works Committee for final recommendation.
