FEDERAL SENATE ADVOCATES LOWER SALARIES STORMY HOUSE DEBATE CANBERRA, Friday. The Senate by 14 votes to 4 in the early hours of this morning decided to request that a statutory measure be introduced to provide for a reduction of 10 per cent, in the salaries of Ministers and members of the Federal Parliament, and also of members of the public service. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Seullin, announced in the House of Representatives this afternoon that he could not accept the Senate’s request, which after a stormy debate was rejected on the voices.
