PETER BINGEN

RETIRED FOR STUD DUTY CRACK PACER AT TAMAHERE Peter Bingen, the most wonderful pacer New Zealand has produced, holder of the Australasian ten-furlong record (2.38 4-5) and the world’s two-mile race record (4.18 4-5) has for the time being retired to the stud. This information was gleaned by “Abaydos” yesterday in an interview with the owner of the “world beater,” Mr. Wilfred Johnstone. With so many horses improving, Peter Bingen’s owner contended that from his present mark it was practically impossible for the Nelson Bingen horse to concede the starts set him. If at any time limits aro tightened the crack pacer will be seen on the track again. Peter Bingen, while in the South, did light stud duty and those of his stock now being handled are highly spoken of. Her Ladyship’s Foal Since coming North. Peter Bingen was mated with Iler Ladyship, a wellperformed mare by Logan Pointer from Lady Derby, a daughter of Norice, dam of Nelson Fame and Nelson The mare which is also owned

by Mr. Johnstone, produced a tilly foal on August 2 and the following day was seen pacing in good style round the padock. Cornelian, the disappointing daughter of Author Dillon, lias also left the race track and will be mated with Peter Bingen. This mare was overboomed in some quarters as a racing proposition, but although repeatedly solidly backed, she failed to make good. Mr. Johnstone has now settled on his new property at Tamahere, where Frank Scrimgeour, for some time associated with Longburn trainer, W Hughes, is in charge of the team. The well-known mares, Tranquil, Buz Buz and Guiding Star are in foal to Blue Mountain King and Hose Bingen will probably be mated with the Ribbon - wood horse this season. With the exception of Enawali and Prince Pedro, the horses required for racing purposes are on the easy list, A. McMillan attending to the preparation of the pair mentioned, for their relief meeting engagements.
