DESCRIPTION OF RACES FOR COURSE PATRONS There is possibility of a broadcast scheme being 1 in operation at the Marton races next month. It will be for the benefit of the public on the course. Speaking at the conference of Wanganui district racing clubs held at Marton on Thursday, the chairman, Mr. J. H. Perrett, said what they wanted was to give a running description of races in progress for the benefit of the public on the course. Details of riders, post positions and other items would be broadcast before the start, and while the horses were running the public could be kept in touch with their movements by the announcer. “I am satisfied that this has to come,” continued Mr. Perrett. ‘‘With a good announcer and a programme of music for the intervals, I am sure the public would welcome the innovation. We would like the Marton Club to start the ball rolling on September 6 and give a practical demonstration. If several clubs unite in purchasing an outfit it could be transported easily from course to course. If- Marton can get a good announcer it will make a good impression.” After the Wanganui, Feilding and Manawatu delegates had expressed opposition to the musical broadcasting proposal, owing to their having local bands to support, Mr. Openshaw expressed willingness on the part of the Marton Club to make the experiment at the forthcoming meeting if the committee was in favour of the proposal.
