WORK AT WHITE ISLAND
TEMPORARY CESSATION TROUBLE WITH BOILER From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Today. It is understood that practically all work at White Island has been stopped and all the men paid oil indefinitely. Opotiki workers returned from the Island this week. Tho Auckland office of Lhe White Island Products, Company, stated this morning that the stoppage of work on the Island was only temporary. A blister had appeared on the retorting boiler at the works and until this has been repaired, all work had to be stopped. A professional boilermaker may be sent down from Auckland to effect repairs and as soon as those have been completed the men will be re-engaged-*-perhaps in a few weeks time.
Tho works manager and some of tho men are still on the Island but the wages bill was much too big to permit all the company’s employees to stay there until work was actually in progress again.
