NEW CLUBHOUSE
TAKAPUNA SURF CLUB DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL This yea:- the Takapuna Life-saving and Surf Club will probably be lion.*;ed in the kiosk at the foot of the Strand. Takapuna. owned by the borough council. A deputation waited on the council last evening, asking that the council allow the club use of the kiosk as a clubhouse. The shed used last year would not be available in the coming season, and there was no other suitable building available. The club needed some rallying point and would pitch a tent on beach if necessary. Mr. A. Dicker, formerly of Wellington, who will act as club captain next season, said that in Wellington the city council owned all the sheds and equipment at the various beaches. The onus was on the clubs to prevent accidents, and regular beach custodians were appointed. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, pointed out that the kiosk cost the borough £. 1,700. However, there appeared at present little chance of either renting or selling the building, and it was probable that the club could use it. This year the club will use a new life-saving reel on the Australian pattern, the gift of the council.
