REGENT, EPSOM
A talking, singing, dancing musical comedy sensation produced on a la visa
scale with an all-star cast is “Jazz Heaven,” at the Regent Theatre, Epsom. The cast features Sally O’Neill and John Mack Brown. Infectious song hits, comedy, gorgeous costumes and wonderful dancing make this picture a joy to the ear and the eye. The sweet romance behind this carnival of dance and song will grip you with its beauty and tendeness. The cast is excellent. Brown, who plays the title role, is youthful, handsome and engaging. He spent eight years in vaudeville and makes a typical song and dance actor. Little Irish Sally O’Neil plays the role of the little chorus-girl with her usual sparkle, verve and vivacity. “Street Girl,” a drama of the Hungarian quarter in New York, starring Betty Compson, is the second feature.
Wallace Beery was strolling across the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lawn in his convict suit in “The Big House.” Anita Pago noticed the prison number on him. “I see 1,583 is your name now,”
she remarked. “Oh, no,” answered Beery, “merely my ‘pen’ name.”
