LEADING SIRE
CHIEF RULER’S REMARKABLE SUCCESS DAY COMET SECOND The 1929-30 racing year was the first full season the imported sire, Chief Ruler, had on the turf of the Dominion and it is remarkable that he should now be right on top. Three seasons back Chief Ruler’s progeny, a mere handful, between them captured £I,BOO in stakes. The following year their number was augmented, but not to a great extent, with the result that they secured stake money to the extent of £10,067. Tho season just concluded has seen the winnings of Chief Ruler’s progeny doubled to what they were in the preceding 12 months. The total of races won by the offspring of The Tetra.reh’s son is 75, with seconds and thirds numbering 81, tho total placings being 156, bringing in £20,136 in stake money. Under the Hammer Tho success of Chief Ruler has been phenomenal and recalls the remarkable triumphs of Absurd, although most will agree that Chief Ruler’s progeny are more solid than were the gets of the defunct Sundridge horse. With Chief Ruler’s owner. Mr. John Donald, of Westmere, Wanganui, selling off next January, the placing of Chief Ruler under the hammer (together with other sires and mares) will doubtless draw most spirited competition from Australians and New Zealanders interested. The phenomenal successes of Day Comet’s progeny in jumping races has elevated this horse into second place. Aurora Borealis and Mangani. winners of the biggest jumping contests, were responsible for nearly a third of Day Comet’s figures, £17,273. Paper Money is third on the list, and Lueullus and Lord Quex follow. Hunting Bong surprised at not getting higher up than 12th on the list. The following is a list of the leading winning sires: Total Amount
