MRS. J. B. ALLAN One of the earliest settlers of Hamilton. Mrs. Annabelle Allan, has died there at the age of 78. Born in America, Mrs. Allan came to New Zealand in 1864 and went to Hamilton the same year. Her husbajid, Mr. James Burrell Allan, died some years ago. and she is survived by five children. MR. C. W. JANSEN The death has occurred at Ho wick of Mr. C. W. Jansen, at the age of 60. Born in New Zealand. Mr. Jansen entered the Post and Telegraph Department as a boy and served until his retirement, when he went to Howick. He was a keen sportsman and a member of the Howick Bowling Club. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. MR. E. C. MEREDITH The death has occurred at New Plymouth of Mr. Edward Charles Meredith. who was a soldier in the New Zealand Forces at the age of 18 year:-. His father and brother were killed by Maoris in 1864 near Drury. In tbe following year Mr. Meredith joined the Native Contingent under Colonel McDonnell as colour-sergeant. He w present at the taking of Wereroa, Pipiriki and Opotiki. His company advanced into Taranaki end he fought it many engagements. After hostilities ceased Mr. Meredith took up land at Patea. He was 84 years of age.— (P.A.). MRS. F. SINCLAIR Born in Scotland 84 years ago, Mrs. WUlemina Sinclair, \ o has died at Palmerston North, cai to New Zealand with her parents \v uen she was 14. I She lived at Picton and later at BlenI lieim. where she married the Rev. W. I Shirriffs. Her husband died in 18S4 | and she went to live abroad. She marI ried Mr. Francis Sinclair in Sydney. During the war his death occurred at • Guernsey, Channel Islands, and she re- | turned to New Zealand, living for a year or two in Auckland and then re- ! moving to Palmerston North. She is : survived by three sons. Messrs. S. R. ■ and F. S. Shirriffs, of Auckland, and W. Mcll. Shirriffs, of Palmerston North. MRS. J. McKEOWN Mrs. Sarah McKeown, an old resident of the Bay of Islands, died at Kawakawa on Sunday. She wa.s J2 years of age. Born at Lisburn. Counrv Antrim. Ireland, site Mr. John McKeown in 1860 and four years la*er came to New Zealand- After Mr. McKeown had taken part :n the Thames gold rush, the family started farming near Taumarere. On ret'ring they lived in Kawakawa. Mr. McKeown died in 1917. There are four daughters surviving. Mrs. C. Wyatt, senr.. Mrs. J. Lee. Mrs. A H. Morgan (Kawakawa), Mrs J. FYaser (Auckland), and two sons. Messrs. William McKeown (Kaikohe) and John McKeown (Kawakawa). MR. P. F. COULTHARD Mr. Percy Frank Coulthard. for tiio past two years manager of the Auckland branch of the Standard Insunno# Company. Ltd., died at his horn- t Bayswater yesterday at the age c: !’.
