Hotel Robbed After Liquor Was Refused
TWO MEN STEAL STOUT PARTY ON ROADSIDE Press Association TAIIIAPE, Today. Breaking into a storeroom after arousing, and being refused liquor by the licensee of the Gretna Hotel, Taihape, about 3 o’clock on Monday morning, Robert Boyd, aged 23, and John Warren, aged 31. stole a case of British stout. They opened the case by the roadside, drank freely, and hid the rest in a culvert. An hour earlier they had attempted to break into the Main Trunk Brewery. The lock, however, resisted all their efforts. Warren was arrested on the river-bank in the act of drinking from a bottle, and Boyd was arrested at his home, v.'here bottles were found in bis possession. Both appeared in the Justices’ Court this morning, when Boyd, with five previous convictions, was sentenced to six mouths’ gaol, and Warren, who had onh previous conviction, and was a married man living apart from his wife, was sentenced to three months.
