HIKURANGI DISASTER

JURY CONSIDERS VERDICT FATAL NEGLIGENCE ALLEGED The second trial of the bus-driver, Noel Herbert Wilkinson, who was concerned in the Hikurangi levelcrossing disaster, on a charge of negligent driving, causing death, was concluded before Mr. Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court this morning. The jury retired to consider its verdict about 11 o’clock, and was still out at the luncheon adjournment. The accident, which gave rise to the charge, occurred on the evening of April 5, when a passenger bus, bound from Hikurangi collided with a train coming from Whangarei at a levelcrossing. Six of the bus passengers lost their lives and four others were seriously Injured. The prosecution was conducted by Mr. V. R. Meredith and Mr. R. A. Singer represented the accused.
