NO PUBLICITY FILMS
BIG CUT IN VOTE IS THE CAUSE SOME CONCERN FELT Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. The scenic films, once a familialfeature of the entertainments of the Dominion and bearing the Government's seal, are no longer being made and inquiry fails to reveal that the Government, intends to resume the making of pictures at any definite date. The vote of the Government PubPicity Office, now incorporated with the Department of Industries and Commerce, has been reduced from £35,000 to £21,000. This heavy reduction has ended any chance of making pictures in the near future. The film side of the Department’s activities used, to be its strongest work, as also its most effective overseas. However, with the advent of the sound films and the refusal of the Government to embark on the production of sound pictures, the making of the film 3of New Zealand’s scenic wonders has ceased indefinitely. Some concern is felt at the lack of activity, for the market is slipping away and good work is being undone. The overseas publicity in film form is R victim of the present economy.
