ST. JAMES
"ROOKERY NOOK” There are only nine people in “Rookery Nook,” which is now in its third week at the St. James, and every one is a star. Every type of person is portrayed. There is Gerald Popkiss, played by the inimitable Ralph Lynn, a typical genial Englishman ever anxious to help a pretty damsel in distress —even at the expense of a domestic entanglement. Then there is Clive Popkiss (Tom Wallis), co-helper in distress, whoso brilliant shafts of wit do full credit to a typical Ben Travers character. And it certainly takes an accomplished actor to fill a Travers role. Mr. Travers’s humour lies not always in what is said, but in what is not said, and in what is suggested—and “Rookery Nook” simply teems with suggestions. Then there is Rlioda Marley (Winifred Shotter), petite and beautiful, driven from home in her pyjamas by a cruel stepfather (Griffith Humphreys). Bright talkie shorts are also being shown. »
