WORK FOR SCOUTS
COMMISSIONER VIEWS COMING YEAR ANNUAL DINNER HELD A complete reorganisation of the district as regards Scout affairs was announced by the Auckland Metropolitan Scout Commissioner, Mr. W. J. IToldsworth. who presided at the second annual dinner of the Auckland District Scouters on Saturday evening. “The suspension of compulsory military training in the Dominion wall throw a still greater onus on *.he Boy Scout movement of this country,” said Mr. lloldsworth. The movement would be thrown into a greater prominence which would probably bring to the general public a deeper appreciation of the value and meaning of the work. Plans are well under way for the visit of the Chief Scout, Lord BadenPowell, and his visit to Auckland during his four of the Dominion early next year is expected to be a red-letter day in the history of Scouting here. At the annual dinner, Mr. A. J. Veart referred to the pioneers of the movement in the city, expressing gratitude to Messrs. E. B B. Boswell and J. Campbell, whose work in the past did so much to spread the spirit of Scouting and assure a bright future for the Auckland district Mr. A. S. Oxley made reference to the Scouters who had lost their lives during the Great War, and Mr. Ruxton Bach expressed the gratitude felt in Scouting circles for the consistent support of the Press Later in the evening the official film of the Jamboree at Arrow'© Park was shown. Two humorous character sketches were contributed by Mr. L. Taylor (late of the First Chiswick Group, London), and Scouting songs and choruses were honoured around the camp-fire. Mr. A. Tribble was presented with a five-years’ bar to his service medal. Mr. D. Watts W'ith his five-years’ medal, and a number of warrants was issued to Scoutmasters and Cubmasters. NEW APPOINTMENTS The following new appointments have been made:—District Commissioner: Mr. A. J. Veart; Assistant District Commissioner for Wolf Cubs: Mr. N. M. Matheson. No. 1 District: AssitantT District Commissioner, Mr. A. S. Oxley; District Scoutmaster, Mr. L. S. Abbott. No. 2 District: Assistant District Commissioner, Mr. A. V. Windsor; District Scoutmaster, Mr. S. Peek. Xo. 3 District: Assistant District Commissioner. Rev. R. J. Stanton; District Scoutmaster, Mr. X. P. Walker. No. 4 District (Sea Scouts): District Sea-Scout Master, Mr. 11. Iversen. Officials present included Messrs. A. J. Veart, X". AT. Matheson, C. Ruxton Bach, A. Tribble, and the district secretary, Mrs. A. E. M. Rougliton. Scoutmaster Pagee, of Wellington, and Mr. W. Monkton. an English Rover, also attended, and apologies were read from Messrs Woods, Windsor, Shanley, Gorton, Hackett, G. and R. Iversen, D. Jones and Gaily. The following toasts were proposed and honoured: “Tim King,’’ (Commissioner lloldsworth); “The Ohivf Scout” (Commissioner Holdsworth); “Old Scouters” (Commissioner Veart and Scoutmaster Oxley): “Absent Scouters” (Captain Price); “The Press” (District Rover-Leader C. Ruxton Bach) and “The Committee” (Commissioner Holdsworth).
