Support for Gay Crest and Gesture

BIG A.J.C. DOUBLE IN THE SHADE IN DEMAND Business on the A.J.C. Epsom and Metropolitan was much brighter a few days ago than has been the case since the appearance of the weights (says a Sydney writer). A definite move was made in favour of Gesture for the mile, and Clay Crest for the Metropolitan, and the two Xew Zealanders were coupled in doubles for a considerable amount. Another double to receive, support, which probably emanated from the stables concerned, was Waugoola and In The Shade. Waugoola proved at Moorefield that he had lost none of his autumn form, and In The Shade continues to do well in private. Gesture and GayCrest will probably leave Xew Zealand for Australia in a week or two. The first-named has the reputation of being one of the best fillies seen out in the Dominion for a number of years. Have to be Good But she will need to be all her admirers claim to win the Epsom, as she has Sst. Gay Crest is regarded in Xew Zealand as one of the most favourably handicapped of all the Dominion horses in the important Australian handicaps. He has- fair form to his credit, and is apparently a much improved horse. Bought Cheaply Gay Crest was bred in Australia at Mr. Harry Taylor’s Macquarie stud, and is by' Shillinglee from Hoopee. Fred Jones. Limerick’s trainer, bought him at Chisholm’s- sales for 100 guineas. He brought him back to Australia, at his next trip, and fancied him one day at Menancle, but he failed. On his return to Xew Zealand he was sold, and almost immediately won three or four rapes. Gay’ Ballerina was also coupled with In The Shade for a substantial amount, and that nice little mare is now treading on the heels of the favourites. Although Mollison would probably be favourite if there was any straightout betting on the Epsom Handicap, most of the double layers have Holdfast, High Disdain, and Tom Pinch on the same mark as the Victorian. Xo risks are being taken with First Arrow, Killarney, Soulton, or Taisho. and Gilt Edge, who ran at Flemington on the last day of the National meeting, has moved up a trifle. It is possible that he will accompany Carradale to Sydney, and the stable double has already received’support. Out On His Own Carradale stands right out on his own for the Metropolitan, while Ilawn-na-Glas has weakened considerably. Chide, Concentrate, Glare, Gwillian 0.. Xightmarch, Paquito, and In the Shade are all more fancied than the Greenstead horse. There have been Inquiries for Jeypore in a Metropolitan connection, and Waterline is holding his place in the market. Soulton is now on the same mark as Phar Lap and Tom Pinch for the Caulfield Cup, and his price, when coupled with Phar Lap for the Melbourne Cup. is remarkably short for this period oi the ye Cr. In fact, it is doubtful whether any horse has ever crippled speculation on the Melbourne Cup to the same extent as Phar Lap. However, Phar Lap has caused the fielders to lengthen the prices of other runners for the Cups, so if you think you can pick something to beat the champion the opportunity is made to obtain a good price. Amounis, Xightmarch, and Taisho follow the favourite trio in the Caulfield Cup. and they in turn are followed by Carradale, Glare, Lord Essex. Limerick, Paquito, Standard Bearer, and Waivin. The following gives some idea of the order in which the candidates are fancied in their respective races: Epsom Handicap Mollison, Holdfast, High Disdain, Pentheus, Tom Pinch. First Arrow, Gilt Edge, Gay Ballerina, Killarney, Soulton, Taisho, Waugoola, Gesture. Amounis, Dominant, Eaglet, Goshawk. Greensea, Pink Coat, Park wood. Spanish Galleon, Simeon’s Fort, Toper, Venetian Lady, Will Yet. Metropolitan Carradale. Concentrate. Chide, Glare, Gwillian G. Paquito, In the Share, Gay Crest. Bawn-na-glas, Jeypore, Loquacious, Prince Viol, Waterline. Amounis, Cimbrian, Clarogale, Dark Jsle. Donald, Denis Boy, First Acre, Goshawk, Historic, John Buchan, Lord Essex, Marella, Papatu, Peacemaker. Fink Coat, Soulton. Tom Pinch, Taisho, Troilus. Caulfield Cup Phar Lap, Tom Pinch, Soulton. Amounis, Xightmarch, Taisho. Carradale, Glare, Lord Essex, Limerick, Paquito. Standard Bearer, Waivin. Melbourne Cup Phar Lap. Carradale. Xightmarch. Concentrate, Paquito. Chide, First Legion, Glare, Gwillian G, LlmeiicK, Xadean, Soulton, Veilmond.
