WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
IMPROMPTU DEBATE AT TE KAUWHATA The monthly meeting of the Rangiriri and Te Kauwliata Women’s Institutes took place in the Te Kauwliata Hall this week. Tho president, Airs. Fry, welcomed nine new members and introduced Airs. Irwin, acting-president of the Auckland Provincial Federation of Women’s Institutes, who gave an interesting and instructive lecture. An impromptu debate followed, which caused much amusement. Pianoforte solos were played by Miss Smith and Airs. Heston. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdames Ryrie. Hall and Rodda. BRANCH FORMED AT lIUNTLY A meeting was held in the rest room at tho Town Hall, Huntly, on Thursday evening, for the purpose of forming a Women’s Institute. Airs. E. George presided over a well-attended gathering. Airs. Irwin, district organiser, addressed the meeting on the aims and objects of the institute, and by the enthusiasm shown a strong membership will be fox-med in the near future Tho following committee was elected: Alesdames T. Brocklebank, Jobes. Hall J. Dodds (president), Cairns (secretary, pro tem).
