PILLION RIDER KILLED

FATAL COLLISION IN WELLINGTON CYCLE CRASHES INTO TAXI Press Association WELLINGTON. Thursday. A collision between a motor-cycle and a taxi-cab at the intersection of Tasman Street and Rugby Street at 5.30 p.m. today resulted in the death of a pillion rider. Mr Walter Pederson, in the Wellington Hospital. The taxi-cab. driven by Mr. Byron Maurice Barclay, was proceeding up Rugby Street when it collided with the motor-cycle as the latter was travelling along Tasman Street in a southerly direction The rider of the cycle was Mr. Selwyn Morris Bingham, a married man. of Constable Street. Riding on the pillion behind was Mr. Pederson, of, Tasman Street. Both men were employed in the coal yard of Samuel Brown. Ltd. Immediately after the accident both tho cyclists were taken to the hospital by the driver of the taxi. Mr. Pederson died shortly after admission from severe head injuries. Mr. Bingham suffered from shook and abrasions to the face and knees. He was discharged later in the evening. Neither the taxi nor the cycle was extensively damaged.
